Bibliotheca of Alexandria launches 1st International Youth Culture Conference

 On Nov. 28th, the Bibliotheca of Alexandria launched its 1st edition of the International Youth Culture Conference, entitled “Overcoming the Barriers of Divergence through Media and Sports”. The conference was carried out within the framework of the BA’s program to promote development and independence in youth and as such, several young men and women, media professionals, journalists and sport celebrities from all over the world were invited to participate.

The goal of the conference is to develop and promote INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE in an attempt to protect and encourage diversity in cultural expression, with special emphasis on media and sports.

The conference was thus inaugurated by Dr. Sherif Riad, Head of the BA External Relations Sector; Dr. Mohamed Sultan, Governor of Alexandria; and Atsuko Furukawa, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The conference stressed the importance of sports and media as tools for the promotion of tolerance and coexistence, thereby allowing for the creation of dialogue spaces between youth from various countries.

Furthermore, the 4th International Football Championship in Alexandria was launch within the margins of the conference from the 27th to the 29th November 2017, attracting several media professionals.

It should be noted that the conference sessions allowed participants to debate the opportunities and challenges relevant to media and youth, as well as the role of sports in intercultural dialogue.
